<< The thing is just too damn hot>> Oh yes, now think about it , why not just put a fan like everybody. Now i think you're loosing it Pat. ======= By the way the fury is already shipping.atitech.com ======== On the other hand there is also the new MAGNUM reviewfullon3d.com HEAT:Subjectively that means that it felt the same when I burnt my finger on the Rage 128 as compared to when I toasted it on the Banshee heatsink . ============================== From ^/\^ PeAK /\^/\ Home Pages Today's Lesson: The difference between HEAT and TEMPERATURE: If you walk into a hardware store (the hammer and screwdriver type), you will normally find three versions of the soldering iron. 1.Low wattage 10 Watt or low heating capacity pencil iron 2.Medium Wattage 25 Watt soldering iron 3.60W soldering iron The irons will all have the same temperature and melt solder at 650F but the pencil iron does not have enough heat or heat transfer to allow it to heat up 12 gauge wiring. Equivalently, the "heating effect" is less for a lower power unit. The Rage 128 draws less power and will generate less of a temperature rise in a real system. Now go back to "Tom's Hardware Store" and you will find that the salesman does not know/understand the difference between heat and temperature. This is especially evident by the following statement: ...Even if the chip can take 115°C (239°F), the components around it can't and particularly a chip placed onto a motherboard would be able to cause serious damage. I guess the salesman will alert all i740, G200, Banshee, TNT and S3 owners that "serious" damage is forthcoming if he follows to form on his notions of the world. Religion can be a very radical and contradictory science at the best of times...so take it with a grain of salt. Now, where is that "empty light bulb socket ?". ;-] . ===================Looks like ATI wants a complete and finished product when it hits the retail shelves, if you've waited this long for Rage 128, there's only a couple more weeks to go. About the next generation RAGE chip, we know that from a few press releases a few months ago that ATI will be releasing a 0.18 micron, 4 times faster then Rage 128 chip later this year. ATI has split into 2 engineering divisions in late 1997 to speed up design cycles. Possibly the engineers that were acquired from Tseng Labs are currently working on ATI's next chip in the USA, RAGE 128 PRO or is it the RAGE 5 ? ====================== V3It is the lack of cutting edge features that have worried potential buyers. Most notably 3dfx has left 32-bit external rendering (true color rendering) off of the feature list. All new cards (except 3dfx brand cards) have supported this feature for many months , and some such as the Permedia 2 from 3DLabs has supported this feature for well over a year. Being an owner of a RIVA TNT I have seen the difference between 16 bit and 32 bit rendering and believe me in games like Unreal, SiN and most other new games, it makes a world of difference. and it goes like this.......publicstoning.com
