Owning Ampex has been tormenting. The steady slide downward from the highs of 10 5/8 all the way to 11/16. The quick jumps upward and the steady slide downward again. The only sure bet I have seen with Ampex so far, is that it will go back down. This has and most likely will be a good stock to trade in and out of, while maintaining a core position. Ampex's conservative, hush, hush mentality has been what has hurt them in the past. At least no one can blame them for hyping the stock.

<< AXC is the rare schizophrenic player in this era.>>

And I remain a schizophrenic holder, BAM ( sure laughed at your line "as Groucho Marx said" about dotcommunism, BTW).

Part of me is scared by numbers and thinks "They bought a whole damn company ( MicroNet) and sales are STILL falling!" Another view dreams of very obvious synergies coalescing just beyond reach right now.

A couple points to the practical side. The products AXC purchased MicroNet for were not even released til the first quarter. The contracts mentioned, modest as they are, didn't add a penny to the fourth quarter. Comparisons to this year's sales are going to be easy to exceed. And 19mm sales increased, quarter over quarter. That's a good sign. While our dreams for rocket rides lie elsewhere, simple sales increases that should come eventually will protect our backsides while we wait.In time.

And, in terms of takeovers and holding companies and such .....while very unlikely I do not think it impossible that someday AXC - when a web delivery brand name is established and the growing market for their storage machines becomes evident and there is at least a partial resurgence in DCR sales - could have the choice of selling its manufacturing business ( if the price were right ....200 million or more) and simply becoming a pure holding company for patents and Internet audio and video delivery. Then a cash rich, low fixed cost, pure frontier play.

BAM,

I respectfully point out the same cautionary boilerplate was on the Reiter and Tv on the Web announcements...what has changed is the current market climate...I like BCST and trade it fairly actively,,nonetheless their upbeat press releases haven't prevented the substantial sell off from the highs...even's with today's move BCST is well below highs...
