Today's Herb on Thestreet commentary on CNBC included a segment on HMTT. Discussed agreement between WDC and KMAG. A synopsis of the segment is linked to the CNBC Special page at netcognizance.com

<<WDC does not represent a substantial amount of HMTT sales>> What's 20% among friends right?... And this is substantially down from early/mid 98 only because WDC is hurting so bad. If HMTT wants to get back to the glory days of $100mil/Q then they need WDC to be a MAJOR customer.

<<. If anything, this divesture could represent a step towards using more HMTT product>> Mark, what are you smokin' out there??? This is not a move IMO that presents an oppty for HMTT. I would expect KMAG to start supplying more media to WDC, not less. I also think that KMAG's supply of GMR media to IBM may have helped this deal go thru given the WDC/IBM drives coming out. WDCs media division was far from successful. They were desperate to get out. KMAG is operating WAY under capacity - they've made plenty of comments in the past that said they have idle machines(that are written off)capable of producing media - they are just waiting for orders to flip them on... Why would KMAG want to buy WDC equipment(Balzers sputtering lines)? It's not even the same brand as their in house stuff(some old ULVAC and a few new ANELVA lines).. There is only one reason IMO for the deal to go thru - they bought WDCs business, WDC got out of the media fiasco. This is BAD for HMTT, not good!

BTW, anyone see old Herb on CNBC this morning? He never fails to amaze me. He actually said WDC would be investing $80mil into KMAG...
