It is a little surprising. I thought Qualcomm would never admit that Ericsson actually has a case. "Patent swap" implies that they would not charge Ericsson full licensing fees for CDMA applications. That sounds suspiciously like a compromise, something it's hard to believe will be achieved without litigation after all the acrimony

It would sound plausible that GSM/IS-95 worldphone is what is driving Qualcomm's interest in GSM. But that's still a GSM phone, an area where they have no expertise. It would be interesting to see which would be a bigger challenge - Qualcomm adapting to GSM or Ericsson adapting to IS-95.

Dave , your thoughts make the most sense to me.

I personally feel that Qcom should specialize in "Silicon",
just as Intel does.

And if they can keep their production facilities running overtime,
producing GSM or TDMA devices; so much the better.

And every phone / device that includes a "Q" silicon chip should
boldly proclaim that fact.

PS I hope you don't mind if I drop by the Q thread once in a
while - I bought back into Q this morning and now hold stock in
all three "handset" companies.

Mardy.
