I've always thought that those who aren't willing to shoot or slaughter their own meat - at least willing in the abstract, lack of competence would be a reasonable excuse - ought to be vegetarians. Never quite understood people who think meat wrapped in plastic is ok, but can't stomach the process of getting it that way. Sort of like those who can't eat fish with the heads on.

<<Wouldn't deer be like other mammals, more tasty when young? If so, the trophy deer ought to be safe once they make it that far. They've earned it, IMHO.>>

An older buck is better eating than a young buck or doe, to me anyway. The younger deer tend to be bland and almost too tender. A buck that dresses out 220 lbs has twice as much meat as a 150 lb doe.

The last season I hunted I never pulled the trigger. I helped build the duck blinds, set out decoys and did most of the work. Same during deer season. I don't know why but I never felt like shooting my gun.
