I was wondering the significance of this statement as well
Noranda said the new shares would rank equally in voting weight, dividend payments and equity participation, though the class A shares would be
used as "currency" for future acquisitions.

Your point is well taken. It makes no sense to me to issue 2 identical classes of shares. Furthermore I have not seen any analysis in the Globe or NP which clearly explains what this is all about. The only possible explanation is that at some point they will amend one class. However this would require the consent of the other class! Whatever it's all about, it certainly didn't help Noranda at a time when the metals in general have been making a nice move. Extremely irritating.
