I won't predict what that severe penalty might be, but consider one possibility that's been mentioned: Licensing of Win98 code.

Win98 code is an intellectual property subject to the protection of the copy right laws. If MSFT is forced to open up the code what is to stop a drug company from being forced to open up the formula to competitors. Basically, a drug company has a monopoly in that drug for years so it can pay for research and have a profit. I think an 'open code' ruling will have far reaching effects.

Even if there is an open code ruling, this will still allow MSFT to set the price for use of the code. Still dollars for MSFT.

As soon as the feds get over their DRAMATICS and do the little wrist slap so that they do not loose face then they can get onto some real issues and GET OFF TV!!MSFT has and will continue to innovate and as soon as Bill and crew shoot the MISSLES up via Teledesic I really would love to se the FEDS faces !! Yup U GO BILL AND CREW!!! HEY MAYBE IF AT AND T MERGES WITH AOL THE FEDS COULD WASTE MORE TAX DOLLARS LOOKING INTO THAT!!
