Hmm. Well, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) software/hardware must be included with a system to be purchased at that price. Usually, if you go to a retailer, and purchase Windows 95 with the system, it will be an OEM copy. It's cheaper for the retailer to acquire. The only real difference, is that there's usually no books/manuals that come with it and the support will come from the System Builder, and not the manufacturer of the software. Example: If you purchase a copy of Windows 95 OEM, Microsoft will not support it. Well, not for free <g>

It's often a good bargain, but most of the time illegal for the seller if it's not bundled with a system.

Considering the price, I wouldn't be surprised if it's an illegal copy (you'd be surprised at real they look).

As I understand it, technically, the OEM version is only to be shipped with a new PC. Also, it usually comes as a 3 Pack to resellers so they must have broken it down. Maybe they have a special sales agreement with Microsoft. All manuals are on the CD. It is much cheeper than the full version CD. It is a full install with Service Pack 1. I recomment that you download Service Pack 4 and install it immediately after you install NT4.

A word of caution, when you go to install Internet Explorer, if asked to overwrite new files after you've installed SP4 answer "No To All".

This will keep all of NT4's files at the current rev. level and reduce the possiblity of Blue Screening.
