NW... I'm not certain what is considered proper protocol, but I took their statement as a warning. Btw, someone said yesterday at the Yahoo Zoo that CPQ's annual meeting would take place on 4/22 this year, about one week after earnings, which I figure will be released on 4/14. I gotta believe that these guys are not gonna disappoint and then care to face shareholders the following week. I think they wanted the bad news out of the way now and wanted to establish a number that they were CERTAIN that they could achieve or better. Also, that meeting would be the time to divulge their intentions for the AV deal. Can anyone confirm that 4/22 is the day for the annual shareholders meeting??? Futures currently up 1.60. El

NW: When did the meeting with investors and some analysts visiting Compaq become a warning? Aren't warnings announced to the general public and not just analysts?

I think there's confusion about the "warning" because some associate "warning" with "earnings warning." In all the analysis and articles that used the word "warning," all were referring to a "warning of weak demand" in January and early February. Nobody has said CPQ issued an "earnings warning" - at least not that I've seen.
