The problem with chicken shit is that for a telecom solution to work, standards must be established. There are many varieties of chicken shit, such varieties, which may exist on local and even regional levels, may create incompatabilities for various forms of communication across such chicken shit. In addition, as opposed to fiber optic cable, or even insulated twisted pair, chicken shit rapidly degrades when exposed to the elements.
