'All RISC chip makers'?!?

Really?
AMD's Am29050, IDT's RC32134, and quite probably National Semi's NS32VF100 are RISC based, and I haven't heard any of them announce Merced plans. (Yet :-))

Paul,

In reality, ALL RISC CHIP makers except SUN are using Intel's x86 CPUs and plan to use MERCED in the future.

OOPS!

"He said even Intel's erstwhile partner Hewlett Packard (HP) has lost faith in Merced and the IA-64 architecture. "MIPS," he said, "had just there's a lot more headroom in the R6000 architecture. HP is now the saying they'll have an 8900 five years from now. What does that tell you about their confidence in the IA-64?"
