Viral Marketing.... by: SmartWire (M/Chicago, IL) 25912 of 25912 >>What's happening now is great for the stock and us as investors, but Novell has got to get in the face of decision-makers, and also incent resellers and integrators to spread the word of these great products and technologies.>> Novell can put fulltimers on BIG cos. sights, but in addition to this they need to get more directly into the mind/sweat share of their VARS. Make their VARS more cutting edge. Show them how. Position themselves as not simply physical sound or bulletin boards but proactive partners seeking to make a lasting difference in a company's future. Selling is OVER. Marketing is OVER. The way of the future is PARTNERING...... You have to earn the trust of the client to become a partner. Partners aren't simply a MS friendly handsome face with an expense account one phone call away. Novell can and should use their technology to open up the entire process of evolving Digital Me, iChain and other NDS-related products and services. Embrace all forms of communications technology to make the feedback funnels as large as possible - email, faxes, voicemail, formums, netdocoments, digital wireless technologies, unified messaging. Get your clients into the narrow neck of the funnel where energy is greatest and both come together to position themselves to create some value-added that will come out the other side. Use technology to get clients into becoming "narrow neck" feedback partners, not loosey-goosey customers. This is a new way of doing business. More related to networking. Less related to traditional marketing and selling. Remember, the net has destroyed sales as we traditionally know it. We are ALL after the golden grail - individual trust and word of mouth recs. We ALL have to simply get off our apps and get out there, period. And you have to be very different about your approach. Be wacky, be crazy, wave your information and feedback filters while flying at 100,000 feet. You have to be "out there" and out of your box to connect with these thoughts that can make AND break your competition. Remember, the entire world is operating in a BOX that continues to grow day by day. The Old Business model - not matter how many funny colored ties your boss wears each week - is over. The internet creates this wonderful bridge across the Grand Canyon that used to separate the technologists from the business practioners and clients. In the early days of the net this bridge was made out of rope and wooden boards. Now, thanks to Novell we are fast creating this high-tech interstate with rest areas, couches, fast and slow lanes. The CIOs and techies HAVE to become more "out there" and viral just as the marketing guys do. The internet is where everyone meets half way across the bridge over this huge canyon that separated them. Convergence is happening faster than any of us ever would have thought. It's getting harder and harder to hide. This requires a totally new approach to marketing. Let's take Microsoft's paid expense account on-sight person and really them a run for their money. My guess is that these people are living in FAT comfort zones. It's still the individual, stupid. Rock the net. GO!
