Voodoo beta OpenGL ICD available and look good. I pulled this from AGN3D

agn3d.com

"Steve Bennet passed along the following numbers comparing the Voodoo2 to the TNT2, using the newest OpenGL beta drivers for the Voodoo2 in Kingpin. It may have took 3Dfx a while to get out the OpenGL ICD, but it looks like they did a good job!
c300a @ 464mhz
128 megs of ram
Flash 3d II Voodoo 2 clocked @ 100mhz
Using default settings in kingpin, sound was enabled.
Minigl 1.47

640x480 47.5 fps
800x600 39.3 fps

OpenGL beta 2.1

640x480 62.1 fps
800x600 52.5 fps

Tnt2 Ultra on a p3-500

800x600 47.5 (according to sharky's tests)

Download the opengl 2.1 beta drivers and see for your self :D "

OT: Patrick, money should never be an obstacle to frag heaven :)

thinking out loud but ... Do we need OEM deals just yet.

I was reading an interesting article - mostly speculation - about the future:

firingsquad.com

The Dell going with the V3 4000 rumour and all the other talk has me wondering about TDFX's strategy on the current series:

3500 - Obviously intended for the LCD buyers - big spenders that want the best. Some of the more well to do hard core gamers - like Pat ;)will also shell out the bucks. They'll probably produce a reasonable number at great margins - big bucks for the bottom line.

3000 - The 3000 is a very solid gamer board. Excellent upgrade board for most pc users - even some of the SLI guys can consider it since they get slightly better visuals, higher resolution and great 2D. The pre-sales seem to show the board is hot. TDFX is going to have a hard time making them as fast as they can sell them - typical hot product launch scenario a la V2 last year. Margin on this board should be quite good. STB is probably going to be running fulll tilt making these cards.

2000 - Given the numbers above - do we really need big 2000 wins. Margins will be smaller, and production of the cards will compete with the other higher margin items. Obviously, we'd like to see the card in some OEM boxes - just to get a foot in the door. The problem I have is that if we can sell the other boards for more money /margin - why allocate production capacity away from these items to sell the 2000 to the OEMs.

Naturally, this is all speculation but it does fall in line with TDFX's stratgey of trying to maintain margins. The down side is that poor OEM announcements could hurt TDFX on the street. I wish we had more solid information to go on, I guess time will tell. Joe C.

Hmmm, check this out:
firingsquad.com
This article speculates that the Vodoo3 4000 will have 32 bit external rendering, and that Dell has already signed on to use it. There's other tasty morsels in there, but take it with a grain... er, sack of salt. :)

Poor Pat - I wish I could spend that much on a new computer! I must be envious to write this much:

Why the K7 instead of P3? The Celeron (A's of course) is a better buy than the K6-2. I'm kinda curious whose advice you're going with on this. Anandtech? Super7? Tom's?

I've heard a rumor about a new DVD standard coming out shortly. You might want to consider waiting for that. I've found watching DVD movies from the computer pretty pointless. (I do use the TV-out from my decoder card though.)

200Mhz SDRAM? Are you buying this around Xmas?

Funny that you're getting the SBLive for NT support after all the NT problems they initially had. (www.planetquake.com/gldojo)

Since you're not averse to shelling out $$$, why the IDE Raid? Better performance using high-end SCSI. Plus you can then use other SCSI devices. In fact, I'd recommend the Asus P2BLS as an excellent Slot 1 motherboard. ~$330 with LAN, SCSI Ultra FW and BX chip support. Not sure of an equivalent Super 7 MB. You've probably seen this review of the Promise Raid IDE already:
anandtech.com

The Logitech Cordless mice are great but for 2 problems (I've had one for 3 years): I keep hitting the damned thing and sending it halfway across the room! Sucks when playing games with the lights out. Keep lots of spare AAA batteries around. It'll start working hesitantly before it fails, but there's no other warning on battery life. (When they came out with the cordless KBs, I emailed asking what would happen when people's batteries ran out and they couldn't boot their computer. They never responded.)
