>>The fact they have yet to earn a single penny conducting their business is a big failure in my mind.

Would you consider it falure for a person to take out student loans to earn an MD instead of earning a salary right out of high school?

It's the end game that matters. That's what Amazon investors are are betting on.

Is Amazon's site better than Barnes and Noble's? To be honest, I don't know ...

I first used Amazon.com about five months ago and have returned four times. My most recent order arrived here in Hawaii in just two days. Never a problem with billing.

In all likelihood, I will never order from B&N online. I may go to their store here near Ala Moana Beach Park to check out a book and make a mental note of the price.

Amazon ALWAYS does B&N better in price on the items I want. Even with the cost of shipping and handling.

RE: ....Barnes and Noble has twice as many books and ordering them is a snap. So that's the only place I shop. And they have found a way of actually making money doing it.

It's not about books. It's about aggregating a huge customer base with a fanatical focus on customer service and establishing its brand as the premier e-portal on a global scale. Only after this is accomplished will Amazon start making significant profits.
