You can't blame this on religion when the malefactors are acting 180 degrees away from the teachings of the religions they nominally profess.

TP---If religion were the problem, why don't the Catholic and Protestant states of Germany go at one another? Religion merely happens to be an element of national identity in a region where grudges last hundreds of years. But what do you think about Bill's handling of the crisis?

Your approach is simplistic, and wrong.

Religions are rarely the only source of conflicts, and are often used as an excuse by Nationalists. In many cases religions provide the restraint and humanity to avoid conflict.

Think about it, the worst atrocities were committed in the name of Ideologies or Nationalisms that had absolutist goals. The following had nothing or very little to do with religion :

Nazi Germany
Imperial Japan
Fascist Italy
Communist China
Stalinist Russia
PolPot's Cambodia
