hey wily,

have you considered using an uninstall program? i put norton's uninstall on one of my systems and it apparently takes every last piece of the removal target off your drive.

maybe there's some free trial stuff you could use at one of the vendor's websites.

hope it all works out (no pun intended).

:)

wily,

after suggesting an uninstall trialware product to you (norton's uninstall deluxe), i'm having a tough time finding it on their site. i seem to recall that they may have discontinued that product.

i did find uninstall deluxe in their knowledge base, and even some faq's about uninstall trialware, but i grew tired of researching it further. here's a product description from symantec's site:

Product(s): Norton Uninstall Deluxe 1.0 - Win95/NT
Operating Systems(s):
Document ID: 1998312154430
Date Created: 03/12/98
Last Modified: 07/10/98

seems like similar uninstall trialware would be just the ticket to adios ie5.0.

good luck,

mark

Hi wily

I'm in Iceland, the Microsoft server is reading my IP address and sends a message saying it is a U.S. law that 128 bit encryption can not be exported out of the country. I have IE 4 on CD but I downloaded the IE4.01 service patch while I was over here. I'm not sure if the 128 bit encryption is included on the disk or not--is anybody out there familiar with IE4's security features?

I just checked my Add/Remove for IE5 and it is not grayed out. When I click on the Add/Remove button I get a dialogue box with 3 choices:

1.Add a component
2.Repair IE
3.Restore previous Windows configuration

The third choice will uninstall or selectively restore the components you specify----anyway that's what comes up when I drag the "?" onto it.

Aha, just noticed an advanced button, I clicked on it and it has an option to "Delete the backup information for Internet Explorer. This will free 7MB of disk space BUT you will no longer be able to uninstall IE5."

Sounds like it could be your backup info is gone.
