"IBD:
Who will use Digitalme?

Slitz:

There's a number of different ways that we
can ''productize'' this technology, and we just
haven't determined that yet. The central thing
is that it has to be held in a directory. We'll
be talking more in the next several months to
figure out how best to bring this technology
to market. "

Amazing! This is the best we can do?!
Didn't we read about some partnering with Citicorp/Visa?Smartcard?
Can't we show more enthus? Can't we say that many projects are on their way??

Paul,

What I mentioned as my fears about 3 days ago with regard to NOVL's handling of Digital-Me shows validity in that interview with Shlitz.

There's a number of different ways that we
can ''productize'' this technology, and we just
haven't determined that yet. The central thing
is that it has to be held in a directory. We'll
be talking more in the next several months to
figure out how best to bring this technology
to market. "

SEVERAL MONTHS TO FIGURE THIS OUT??? Excuse me!?!?

They have a great product but are being mired in their commitment to "FOCUS" on prime business objectives and the opportunities of Digital-Me fall outside of this Focus area.

Based on Shlitz's responses, they are not sure where to take Digital-Me. They have a technology with great promise but my bet is that the senior management at Novell don't know where to take it. I can bet that the techies at Novell who are responsible for Digital-Me know what should be done with it.

I am sorry if I am a bit negative or leary on NOVL's handling of Digital-Me, but now you see why I am a bit nervous.

NOVL - if your reading this board - GET SOME GUTS AND TAKE A CHANCE ON THIS TECHNOLOGY!! Set up a Digital-Me Service Portal and offer a service on it.

>Re: Slitz
"Not good. That's the old Novell marketing. Hi press, we don't know what we are doing with our internet strategy."

I still say that Novell needs a new marketing person to lead them in their internet strategy...

Let's not forget, John Slitz did an excellent job last year in marketing NDS, Netware 5, GroupWise, BorderManager, ZENWorks and other products that he was recognized as the Marketer of the Year for Novell's comeback. He created a consistent theme to the customers of what Novell "is" not was. His messages were not filled with hype but what Novell specializes. As the results, Novell accomplished what they said and many customers are turning back to Novell. The marketing messages are no longer going 5 different directions, but pointing to NDS: the Directory is the Network.

Digital Me Equals.....

>>I'm disappointed with this interview. There is much more that Slitz could have said without having to be specific about products under development. He didn't dangle anything in front of the press. All he said is --- we don't know what we are doing with digitalme yet.>>

Up late catching up on this Slitz interview issue......

Perhaps it's part of their old legacy, but after coming out with potentially paradigm-breaking news, Novell does exhibit a tendency to find a warm seat in the corner to smile and feel comfortable.

Thanks Paul. Let's keep up the heat.

To ME.....Digital Me = REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!

Period.

Any questions?

GO!!
