I don't necessarily agree that the market is giving a thumbs down on this deal. With the recent price of wireless acquisitions, it's expected that WCOM will overpay.

This reminds me of a time about 2 1/2 years ago. WorldCom announced that they were going to buy MFS. The market was concerned that they would overpay. The stock dropped from $28 to under $20 (about a 30% drop). That news got me looking into WorldCom and I bought in then. Needless to say, I'm happy that I did and the fear of overpayment didn't mean that WCOM was sacrificing future profits.

In terms of not making money on wireless, i.e. missing the boat on big profits, I can't refute that claim, but I can counter it. The big telecom firms are in a race to offer one stop shopping. If WCOM does buy Nextel, that gives them an extra aisle or so in the telecom store, so they will have more shoppers.
