Inco cont... They characterized the market as an important opportunity for Inco in developing and marketing specialized battery grade nickel powders, nickel foams, and nickel hydroxide. Nickel batteries are becoming standard for this exciting new market. They are supplying this market out of Sudbury which is their old hometown and Clydach Ireland where they have recently completed a $14 million expansion.

Jacq, royalties from Honda's hybrid depends on where Honda is getting them from. If they are from Panasonic like the Prius, then 0%, if they are from Sanyo then 3%. Panasonic is most likely but Sanyo is the largest producer of D cells (which they are using) in the world and they have a license to use Ovonic's positive. I'm sure Sanyo is trying to convince them to switch.

jacq, the Energizer charger is switchable from NiCD to NiMH and can charge 4 AA cells at a time. It plugs directly into the wall. I took it apart and it has a transformer with 2 secondary outputs, 6 diodes, 21 resistors, 5 transistors and a capacitor and a small IC. I didn't see a thermistor. The cells that came with it were 1200 mah, just like the Radio Shack ones that I bought about 2 months ago. The RS cells say that they are made in France for Radio Shack. The Gold Peak cells that were given out at the meeting, 3 years ago I think, were 1100 mah, so I guess that we are improving.

Jacq, I was half right and half wrong before. Honda was using Panasonic D cells early on in testing in their prototypes. Since then they have been deciding between Sanoh's batteries and Sanyo's batteries. Sanoh and Sanyo are the only other battery companies in Japan who can sell hybrid batteries. I'm not sure exactly who they have chosen. On the one hand Sanoh already has a working relationship with Honda, they have been working with Honda on their C cell bike battery for several years on the other Sanyo has more production. Either way it's 3% to ECD. I figure it's about $1200 of batteries per pack or $36 per car in royalties. Fred whats the price of a D cell in Japan these days, about $6?
