OT- Y2K Lockdown example.

I don't know if this is typical, but I just got out of a meeting
in which it was announced that we are undergoing an independent
audit verification of our Y2K testing to be completed by June 1st.
After that, we are not allowed to do any system updates
(unless we bring back the auditors for re-verification) until
March 1 of 2000. From my perspective, this is absolutely ludicrous.
The guy from the audit firm said this is pretty common (of course
he is going to say this, he is in the business). But management is
in a pretty pickle about it, makes the cost of making changes and
satisfying customers really high. I am thinking I have a leave
of absence in my future. The good news is that this could mean
a lot of IT folks sitting around looking for something to do for
the next 11 months. Why not start some new ERP project (or add-on), scheduled to come up in the next 12-18? Oh well, I guess that is just wishful thinking.
