>>On the other hand, if it's a question E*trade can conveniently answer, or if it's a question that is somehow in their advantage to answer, then you might - repeat - might - get a feeble, untimely response out of them. <<

Or you'll get a form letter response that has nothing to do with the question you asked.

Their "customer service" people don't even have the courtesy to read beyond the subject line before responding.

The one way I have gotten a response: After you get a non-sense response, look for the name of the service person that responded and then send it back with "Attn: xxxx's Supervisor" as the subject.

This has often gotten a response within minutes - not from a supervisor, but from the original service person. Which is better than nothing.

i thought i had seen it all with etrade.but, there is more.
regarding the ipo's.
anytime etrade had an ipo offering,i would go thru the entire
process of filling the application, reading the prospectus etc.
when i finally place the order, the system does not accept my trading password.

i have always used the same password.the password always worked
before and after the ipo incidents for my other trades.

this has happened several times.
everytime this happened, i called etrade to figure out the problem.
i would explain to them that my password works fine for all my regular orders before and after the ipo order.
the explanation taht they always gave me was that the ipo window may have closed and tha this is the way their system blocks additional orders.
who can argue with that?!!
no one.
guess what happened today?
a friend called today to inform that he got a message about the concur technologies follow on offering.

so i go onto to the site and try to palce an orser.
same problem.the system rejects my password.

so i tell my fried that it is too late.that according to etrade's
explanation for something like this that the window has closed.
my friend wants to try to place an order anyway.
so i walk him thru the entire process and he was able to place his order!!!!!!
i was shocked!!!!
how can a person placing an order after i was rejected be accepted?

if etrade's explanation of why my password was rejected is true, then my friends order should have never been accepted.

it is outrageous.
i don't even have the words to express my anger and frustration.
this is extremely frustrating.
how can etrade get away with this?

i am writing this message while on the phone with etrade trying to resolve this problem.

after a lenghty wait i get customer service rep,who by the way previously just tell me that the window has closed.that would be end of story.
today i had knowledge of someone who placed the order successfully after i had failed.
so the rep transfers me to tech support.
after another wait, i get a tech support tech.he tells me that he cannot do anything about it.i would have to call them imediately the next time it happens so they can look into it.
i informed him that that is what i did.i called them immediately.
but,it takes time to get to a live person.
he says he will forward it to the systems people.
i asked him if he would follow thru and let me know if anything has been done.
he says he cannot call me.
i will just have to use the service next time and find out!
i told him this is a password issue and that i am not comfortable about this.i asked to talk to a supervisor today since it is a password issue.he said a supervisor is not available and they will get back to me tomorrow and he hung up.

this is how the great etrade works folks.

Etrade customer service people don't know enough to help traders like me......that is my opinion. Most of the ones i have discussed my problem with are amateurs.
