DARBES - I assume that, in regular English, you mean something like the following. Please correct me if I misinterpret.

"Can you spell the terms "upgrade", and "analyst/lemming" & "lemming" these may be needed during the next several weeks to months."

I believe that you meant that AMD will be upgraded by several/most/all Wall Street analysts shortly as they come to be aware of the coming impressive earnings and market share that will come to AMD as a result of their improved performance and the appearence of the K7 on the scene.

Two points -
1) If AMD meets its commitments to produce and sell at non-firesale prices the number and mix of chips promised in the next quarter or two I agree that AMD will see increased interest by Wall Street leading up to improved analyst ratings. I take it that you are annoyed that analysts do not simply accept the word of AMD that this will take place. Accepting Jerry's word as gospel has not been a profitable route in the past couple of quarters.

2) Your thesis is that analysts are very herdlike and they are not given to insightful independent research and analysis. Once one or two take a stand the rest follow in a stampede. Lemminglike. I agree.

Good investing,
Burt

Re: analyst/lemming

"Lemming by Graham, Bank Street School for Children

Lemmings don't live very long. There's an 80% chance that they could get killed on any day. The lemming's predators are hawks, owls, weasels, foxes and basically all Arctic animals. Winter is the safest time for the lemming. Predators cannot see them because the snow covers up their tunnels.

The overpopulation of lemmings overwhelms the lemmings which causes them to fall off cliffs and drown. They get irritated with one another and it drives them crazy which causes them to leave. In the years when there are many lemmings, sometimes they run out of food, so they are forced to leave their homes. They are stubborn little creatures and nothing stands in their way. When anything comes in their path they find a way to pass the obstacle. If there was a river in their way, they would dive in and swim across. But sometimes, if the river is too wide, the lemmings drown because they didn't pay attention to whether or not they could swim across the width of the river.

People think that lemmings commit suicide by jumping off cliffs or drowning. Maybe it seems like suicide attempts, but the lemmings are really just making mistakes and they sometimes die from them..."

Really poor choice to link those disgusting creatures... with such cute little denizens of the Arctic! - Tad LaFountain

P.S. I expect you'll be hearing from the Lemming Anti-Defamation League momentarily.
