Paul,

I understand that you guys are hoping that EP's departure will lead to Compaq dropping AMD and Alpha, but that really isn't very likely. If anything they will pursue Alpha more aggressively.

Remeber that Pfeiffer was brought in by Rosen to replace Canion. Canion at the time was in love with the reputation for quality that CPQ had developed. Unfortunately, Rod was getting bogged down with quality and ripped compaq machines out of the then biggest retailer, I think it was called Computown.

Pfeiffer was the low cost provider, he turned CPQ on its ear and made it a mass producer of PCs.

It may have been that Eckhart does not have as good a handle on the commercial/ departmental market. In English, why would I buy 10,000 intel compatible desktops, and hook them to a non-intel server. It looses sight of the TCO concept. I think Rosen figured this out, I think he got pissed at Pfieffer dumping a sh*tload of stock before he "guided analysists'(sp) expectations".

IF all this crap is true, then I think that Pfeiffer's "resignation" was an excellent decision by an excellent company. EOR**
