Let us not forget CISCO and SUNW which is also a big partner
of ATHM/ATT right now. I also forgot RealNetwork(RNWK)

Especially SUNW...the venture capitalist for them was Kleiner Perkins, which is also the venture capitalist for ATHM and XCite.

Anyway, the LINEUP for ATHM/XCIT sure looks darn AWESOME.
MSFT/SUNW/ATT/CISCO/RNWK/TCI/COMCAST/MEDIAONE/COX/FOXTV/ATHM/XCIT/QVC/AND OTHERS.

The first five alone is already an awesome combination by itself.

As for AOL/NSCP....i don't know. They got the subscribers, but they sure are scared right now, for they know in 2-3 yrs, that would dwindle down a lot. Why do you think they went to the FCC, i think 3 times, in January and protested. Then Case went to Congress and got nothing....It sure doesnt look good.IMHO

Bottom line is....THE NEED FOR SPEED. Imagine getting paged on your pager when you get an email and be able to read the text of your email....imagine getting a phone call and be able to read the text of your email on your cell phone....all of this is possible thru ATT. Imagine getting internet access 24hours a day and always on.....just turn your PC or TV(soon) on.
Imagine ordering the product while the commercial of that product is running...through your "interactive" box.....These is just the tip of the BROADBAND iceberg.

Over all....ITS AWESOME.
I like AOL...but as their actions shows on their protests.....they are behind the "PACK" now...and running scared...just my humble opinion.
Cable is better than phone lines....Bigger pipes are better than smaller pipes....as simple as that.

Over the weekend, people will gradually realize the
tremendous potential of the AT&T + MSFT deal.

Will they keep realizing it next week, next month, next year, and for the 3-4 years it will take to get as many cable internet hookups as AOL has in subscribers today? And while T bleeds red paying for all of those cable upgrades? And will AOL sit on the sidelines for all that time and not be able to get any kind of cable entry? That is what those who bet on T have to count on.

IMHO, NSCP was a bad purchase for AOL, as it will not
help at all with its long-term strategy in broadband.
Netscape engineers are leaving AOL by the truck loads.
You will see people gradually wake up to that fact

NSCP wasn't a purchase with broadband in mind. NSCP was an acquisition with eyeballs in mind - in particular, the nice upscale demographic of business users that surf during the work hours. It also allows AOL to leverage AIM, and introduces yet another e-commerce solution. And don't forget about SUN.

Where did you hear/read that engineers are leaving by the "truck loads" Yes, JZ left and a few other upper mgmt execs. I'm sure some of the workforce left as well. But don't play it up like some mass exodus - because that isn't the case!

As for the advent of any broadband strategy - AOL will serve as a good litmus test. It seems as if everyone forgot that AOL has signed agreements with both Bell Atlantic and SBC for DSL services. This serves over 20 million homes! The price point will also be attractive - releases have stated that the AOL/DSL bundle will be priced roughly $20 more then the service, which equals $41.95.

The biggest mistake anyone can make is to assume AOL doesn't have a broadband or cable strategy in the works. They didn't hire away Mario Vecchi from RoadRunner just for kicks. It was foresight.
