I don't believe that anyone else is doing this yet.

If you're using an alternate long-distance carrier, there's a pretty good chance you're doing it every time you make a phone call. What do you think all those ATM switches Ascend and Newbridge are selling do? They run internet and voice traffic. Shoot, for years MCI ran the primary internet backbone.

We don't yet have the details of how NPEC's system will operate

Paraphrasing...

"Dial 1-604-xxx-xxxx
Let it ring twice
On the second ring hang up
The system will call you back
Let it ring twice
On the second ring say only "hello"
Then dial the 7-digit number"

Somehow I doubt Candice is shaking in her boots from this.

Reaper, I am already paying 10 cents a minute for unlimited long distance
under AT&T. Other companies have similar plans, and if you shop around you can get even a better rate. Also, note that the wireless plans are getting to be much better bargains. What is NPEC offering that a consumer doesn't already have? I'm still missing something.
