Add to your list of poor ads, an old one for Dunhill cigaretts, "Dunhill adds character". Many took it as "for those who lack character" <g>

BTW, PW based on your profile, somehow I had pictured you with a Celtic background. For what it's worth, I've been mistaken as Italian (in Montreal), French (in Toronto), Spanish (in New York), American (in Japan), Bosnian (in Sweden), English (in Pakistan),... and I'm from none of the above <g>.

Lousy beer ads helped transform Schlitz from a heavyweight brand, on a par with Miller & Bud in the 70's, to near oblivion. A bunch of dumb ultra-macho ads where some burly dude snarled into the screen basically to the effect: "Take away my Schlitz beer and I'll kill you." DUH. Meanwhile new Miller Lite's funny ads with jocks, Rodney Dangerfield etc. were grabbing market share left and right!

Sam Adams' more recent "Do you love beer?" ad slogan was on the other end of the spectrum...really wussy IMO.

Never heard of "Oly" beer. Here's a slogan for 'em..."Holy Oly! It's a miracle anyone will drink this!" :-)

I can't think of any really awful recent ad that resulted in people laughing AT the product...anyone?
