Police Hunt For 'Very Ugly Woman'
Friday May 14 10:28 AM ET

dailynews.yahoo.com

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Reuters) - Police say they're hunting a ''very ugly woman'' suspected of a string of bank robberies in
Arizona and justify using the description by saying it's the best they have.

She is believed to have robbed seven Phoenix-area bank branches in the last month, including three Tuesday.

''She's been described by every victim who has seen her as a very ugly woman,'' said Sgt. John Van Reusen, of the Phoenix
Police Department. ''It's kind of insulting, but maybe that will tick her off -- maybe she'll call me.''

Police said the routine was always the same. Pretending to be armed, the robber demanded money, stuffed it into a handbag
and fled on foot. The robber has been seen wearing at least four different colored wigs and puts on heavy make-up.

Van Reusen said police were keeping an open mind. ''We haven't eliminated the possibility that it could be an ugly man
posing as an ugly woman,'' he said. ''You never can tell.''

Teacher Who Stripped In Class Arrested

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles police have arrested a teacher who allegedly stripped in front of his class of nine-
and ten-year-olds.

Alarmed parents flocked to El Sereno elementary school demanding an explanation of the incident Wednesday in which
children spoke of the 46-year-old substitute teacher hyperventilating as he took his clothes off.

The teacher, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for medical and psychiatric checks before returning
home.

The school sent notes home with children apologizing for what it called the ''clearly inappropriate behavior'' of the teacher.

But police Thursday decided his behavior was a ''criminal act, not the result of a medical condition'' and decided to arrest
him. It was not immediately clear what charges he faced.

''No children were hurt and that I'm very happy for. But that doesn't change the situation that it's something that will upset us
for a long time,'' school principal Corby Alsbrook told reporters.

Some of the 30 child witnesses told police the teacher took off his pants and asked girls in the class to touch him. Others
described him as having some kind of seizure or hyperventilating.
