from agn hardware article:

the features cake, and based on V3 3000 numbers, the 3500 will almost certainly be the performance leader when it arrives. Look for the 3500 in July, and a PCI version shortly thereafter. Price: $249.

WOOHOO!! now i can replace that second vidcard in my multi-monitor system! yep get the 3500 PCI and then Rampage to replace my 3000 AGP that i have right now... =).... hmmm, imagine that... plus having PCI allows for a V3-SLI rig if 3dfx decides to implement one (so maybe that v3-sli rumour may have some merit) - 60+ fps at 1600x1200... i'm drooling already =)

from the agn E3 interview: (damn, tony tamasi speaks REAL FAST)

Real-time MPEG encoding requires a P-III. I almost thought they would have real-time hardware encoding, but it appears to be software.

Tonight is one of those excessive posting nights...

Pat, I think that we had this discussion before... regarding the 3500TV release versus the 3500 and the potential problems that they might be having with yields and management execution.

Well, watching the E3 coverage... I realized something... no active cooling. Didn't all the preproduction 3500 cards have active cooling? If they are able to get viable chips that run at 183mhz without active cooling, I would doubt that yields were the issue driving the 3500TV. Am I missing something?

So, if the chip yields were not the issue (Tomasi stated that they have chips running 220mhz in the lab - AGN e3 video interview), then perhaps 3dfx management did not drop the ball and has realistically evaluated and adapted to the demands of the market....

Just a thought...

Jeff P.

Pat,

Have you looked at the 3500TV details on AGN? Now do you understand why it added another 2 months to the ship date? This board is a complete redesign from the other V3 products.
