Michael P,

I think ATT, Omnipoint, Nextel etc would say the same thing here. They are probably not threatened by CDMA launch in the US neither.

A kick in the nutsack for QCOM?
Yang Zhongliang, president of China National Postal and
Telecommunications Appliances controlled by the Ministry of Information Industry, yesterday said the CDMA (code division multiple access) technology was supplementary to GSM (global system for mobile telephones) technology, not a rival.

I'm sure there will be no shortage of interpretations on the subtext
behind this quote.....

Leys hear them

China, GSM Not Threatened by Cdma, Ho, ho, ho. Nah, GSM isn't threatened by cdma. So what if cdma has higher data rates, better voice quality, more capacity, and is cheaper. China is already built out and there isn't much growth potential for a better wireless system. Makes sense to me. I wouldn't be threatened either, heck not once did I worry about those May 100 puts I sold closing in the money.

Michael,

State Council has given China Unicom the exclusive right to establish a nationwide CDMA network.

I believe this is the first time a press release has referred to the trial network expansion as nationwide.
