I remember when most people thought natural childbirth was weird, and they also thought breast-feeding was weird. So? You have to trust your own instincts as a parent. She's your child. Do what you think is the right thing, and it will turn out ok, I am sure of it.

I am sure Blue is right, if it feels right, do it. I think people who are very unhappy, and feel isolated or rejected in high school, can be damaged permanently by that experience. It's a form of torture, and it happens at a time when young people are just defining themselves as sexual adults, and seeing the reflection of their burgeoning new selves in the eyes of others; and hostile or contemptuous or even just disrespectful reflections I think get internalized in a horrible way, when it happens at this age. By 'sexual adults' I'm not talking about overt sexual behavior, of course. I mean that they are figuring out their place in the adult universe of sexual competitiveness and hierarchy, even if they have no idea that that is what is going on when suddenly clothes and hair and weight and shape become so important to them.

Anyway, I personally think it's important not to send a child your daughter's age into a disrespectful environment, and if she has expressed an interest in home schooling, that seems wonderful to me-- as though she knows what would be harmful to her, and has the strength and originality to figure out a way to preserve herself. If you can do that for her, I think it would be a wonderful gift.

I know nobody asked me, but I thought I'd weigh in anyway.
