I anticipate that Dell will start basing in the 30 to 36 dollar range. It will continue to base until Dell meets the Street's expectations for 2 to 3 quarters.

You may be right, but I was (implicitly) disagreeing with you. I think the earnings report was pretty good, actually, and that fact will begin to sink in over the next few days. If the Nasdaq rally continues (and as I said before, I think it will, at least modestly), then I think we'll start seeing some stocks that did not participate today (like INTC and DELL) move up, too.

I will certainly concede that your scenario is also plausible. We'll just have to wait and see.

What's holding Dell back? a few thoughts..

1. PC business has been losing favor for some time, Dell was the last to correct.

2. MSFT has been turning everyone's attention toward other devices with their large investments in cable. Read Cramer's column.

3. Summer/Y2k etc.

4. Growth rate is slowing.

5. Fresh money looking for a bounce is lured to hotter sector's; inet, etc.

Finally, we may be, no we ARE seeing a major shift from the personal computer era to the communications era. That's why MSFT is investing in all these non PC related ventures. I'd look for Dell to make an outrageous aquistion to spread into the communications sector. With their manufacturing expertise, marketing ability, and street favor they should do it. How about BRCM or COMS?

<< It will continue to base until Dell meets the Street's expectations for 2 to 3 quarters. JMO>>

There are A LOT of opinions out there about DELL's future. Kemble and I just did some brainstorming. Think about this carefully...What would happen if DELL announces a new alliance with a visionary set of partners? What if the deal allowed DELL to more effectively market its current products and opened up totally new revenue streams for the company.(think Telecom, phone service, Branded ISP, Broadband opportunities)..? Hmmm....Some of those Anal-ysts, technical experts, media pundits, and those shorting the stock....Boy they might be in a little trouble <GG>......DELL's business model could quickly be enhanced and the GROWTH RATES could possibly accelerate again -- ahead of schedule. All those estimates and predictions would need to be re-worked..!! Think partnering, virtual integration, more opportunities to GROW than DELL has ever had. Read between the lines.

Just thought I would shake things up. You never know when DELL will release some BIG news. I feel sorry for those shorting the stock. IMO, we are long overdue for some SERIOUS news...Just a Gut Feeling....Who knows, we all may be surprised...and then again maybe I'll be wrong. I could be underestimating DELL..!! I wouldn't bet against MSD.

In fact, I might be shopping for some shares sooner rather than later..!!

Sleep well everyone.

Best Regards,

Scott

Re: "It will continue to base until Dell meets the Street's expectations for 2 to 3 quarters."

If you wait till then you just might be too late! Just remember the time to sell was when there was strong indication they were going to bust through Q1 earnings and rise to $55 or above (just a week ago). Now if you wait for 2 or 3 quarters of positive earnings before investing you will lose out for sure. JMO...
