<< I mean if Cisco is experiencing that type of growth Dell cannot be too far behind? >>

The interesting thing is that CSCO's growth in sales and earnings is not as robust as DELLs. The CSCO P/E is much higher than DELLs. It all has to do with perception. DELL is a larger company than CSCO and is expected to grow even faster....Hmmmm....Both firms are well managed and lead their industry. I'm not against Cisco. My relatives all own it. Most of the mutual funds do too. It's true that CSCO is providing a lot of the plumbing for the internet. Yet, DELL is providing many other essential things. BOTH firms will grow fast and perform well in the next few years.

Best Regards,

Scott

ttosbt...re: charlie rose..

grove basically said the role of the "desk top" has diminished...he described the new devices more home based server, with the portable appliances as ancillary to them...the "cloud" was an interesting analogy of the future...i took this as the computing being done in the "cloud", not the desk top...the most important thing they discussed was cable/wire/wireless distribution systems, both nationally and globally...gives me a strong sense of security when i see grove talk! ............i would like to see "mikey" become more visible, and establish himself as a visionary...as did grove and chambers last night...

this am ibd, has an article about computer bundling for consumers, they discuss compusa, compaq and interview gateway...again no dell, as the "perception" is that dell not for consumers..or else why not get dell comments?

Howdy. I've also been watching Charlie Rose this week. Great set of programs focussed on Silicon Valley. Grove and Chambers were tremendous. I was espescially interested in Grove's statement that while the PC will not be as dominant as it has been -- indeed it already is not -- it will nonetheless still be the central piece of computing equipment with handheld devices and such being essentially PC peripherals which will still be reliant on PCs. That these devices will support and enhance the PC, not supplant it.

I hope he is right, but I can't but wonder if these small and less efficient devices might not be the "disruptive technology" that was the subject of the program the night before when Rose interviewed the author of "The Innovator's Dilemma." I have a palm pilot but find that it is more useful as a paperweight than an organizer. But in a couple of years, who's to say. Looks very much like a "disruptive technology" to me.

Haven't had a chance to buy "The Innovator's Dilemma" yet, but plan to get it this weekend. It seems very relevant to DELL's current business position.

I also heard Chamers' comment about 60% sequential growth per quarter. I thought he was referring to CSCO though, not the internet. (Did I get that wrong?) This is hard to believe, but I'm going to be taking a closer look at CSCO!

Cheers.
