I would be surprised if HWP offered the CEO position to a company they basically just pulled the rug out from under, but maybe I'm naive about how those multi-million dollar salaried positions work. After all, Belluzo is rumored to be in the running and he didn't leave on the best of terms (but also not the worst).

Did anyone catch the press release a couple days ago about HWP offering a re-writable DVD this fall? Good news as an investor and consumer...how long before the DVD player replaces the VCR? That's one of the main reasons I don't yet own a DVD: I'd have to keep the VCR to record.

Exciting times!

Jody

Fred:

<<Usually threads have cheerleaders while the stock goes up, and become moribund while they sink.>>

When the stock is going up, it is easy to cheer. When it's going down, you have to have confidence in the company and yourself that you evaluated the company correctly.

Finally, I don't buy the Emc rumor, though he is a very talented CEO. Sounds like company spin to me. Good luck to all in the coming weeks.

Bill

Fred,
I like the company and left on wonderful terms, VSI. I just post most of my good news and cheerleading at my own site now and just read here to gather new information.

The Title is:
HWP - A steady Workhorse in a Portfolio
The URL is:

I just posted my thoughts on the CEO search and why I think Livermore shouldn't get the role....

One nice thing about working for myself... don't have to worry so much about being PC in what I say! 8)

best regards
Kirk

No rumor but some observations. HWP now wants to go head to head with DELL. Bad idea. The fact is HWP was late to the PC market and tried to buy market share with low prices in the low end market. CPQ then dropped prices as did others and the whole low end PC market went to hell.
Now HWP being late to the internet, is going to try to become a DELL. That is not going to happen so HWP may try to buy market share and a repeat of what happened in the low end market may happen all over again.
It is sad to see how HWP has lost its way. The have lost touch of "The HP Way" under Lew Platt. They have spent so much time now doing "me too" that they have lost what brought them to the top a few years ago, vision. This is due in part to the death of the open door policy at HWP, the joke is it is an open door out of the company.
This is not about computers but core values. This ain't the HP it was, not the way Bill and Dave set it up.
I can prove at any time what is wrong with one HWP division and chance are it happens in other divisions. HWP can't fix what they don't see and they are clueless. Cutting the company in half was not the answer, "you can cut a dead fish in half but it still stinks". The answer is in management and the OLD HP Way. If there is a high level HWP person out there, I'll be glad to tell you what is wrong. Remember "manage by walking around?" It is a little deeper than that.
I wouldn't buy this company until some major changes take place. I know what I'm talking about, I was around for John and Lew and said thanks Bill and Dave many times after lunch or a business dinner. Good luck with HWP, to me it is still an avoid until HWP figures out what the real problems is, Lew going is a good start.
Good luck, BLUE
