17" iMac shown by Umax , available in the Fall ?

Remember when you thimked it couldn't be ?

" TAIPEI, Taiwan--What's being shown on the floor at
Computex? An Apple iMac with a 17-inch screen that
pivots on a tripod, that's what--among a host of other
head-turning and penny-pinching designs.

While not part of an official Apple presentation, the large, Bondi Blue iMac, which proudly displays the bite-missing Apple logo,
was one of many items which could appear on store shelves
by the third or fourth quarter in the United States. And, while
promises can't be made on the Apple machine, "Web pads,"
wall computers, phones with Internet screens, Pentium TV
set-top boxes, more ultraslim notebooks, and even iMac
colored monitors are all likely headed toward stores.

" The iMac mystery
The mystery iMac was featured in a display for Umax,
an erstwhile Macinotosh clone maker.

Umax was not
selling the computer. Rather, the company employed
the computer to power a scanner demonstration. "We
just bought it," a representative said, as he tried to steer
onlookers to displays of handheld devices. "

Just bought it ? From LG Electronics ?

Unfortunately, the delay in the G4 processor is combined by Apples tendency to drag its feet on processor speed. What I mean is Apple will delay bumping up processor speed so as to gain a larger profit even when faster processors are available. A traditional achilles heel this profit margin thing. The truth is that Apple computers are no longer faster than Wintel computers. They could be faster right now, but because of this margin obsession, they've lost yet another advantage.

They do this at the expense of cash flow and market share, exactly what modern companies thrive upon.

And yes, I realize that the iMac is possibly helping market share, but not enough and the iMac balloon may pop. Reports are that the older iMacs out sell the new models by a pretty wide margin.

Interesting read the Insider report on Amilio/Jobs. Exactly what I thought. Amilio was not given enough credit for his long term fixes at Apple. Some of his fixes have only come to fruition during Jobs' term.
Jobs of course got the credit for these fixes. Although Jobs' is probably the better promoter/dealer showman (tactics), Amilio methinks may have been better at long term strategy and possibly might have been the better ceo for Apple.
