Most of the conversation about FUD has characterized it as trying to stop the technology. But much of the FUD seems more aimed at slowing down its deployment.

FUD that is pushing DDR seems aimed at trying to stop RDRam. But many RAM companies (particularly in Japan), for example, would benefit if RDRam did not come out as quickly as planned. This gives them more time to get their 0.18 micron processes in shape and to prevent companies like Samsung from running away with the market. Likewise, if the rampup can be slowed down - ie the time from first systems until market share is developed - then more companies can jump in after the technology has had all the bugs worked out.

There are many reasons for companies to want to slow down but not stop this technology.

I am convinced we will see a domino effect shortly after the first RDRam/Camino system is shipped with many of the FUDsters turning into advocates.

Infrastructure! That's what Rambus has in place and that's what all the competing technologies are lacking. Look at Russia and America. Russia has raw material & talented people but lack a working infrastructure. America has all of the above and thus succeed in building a wealthy nation where building a business is pretty easy.

Not to forget the billions that have been invested by the semiconductor industry to secure the deployment of RDRA. These investments include large sums needed to upgrade manufacturing facilities. Facilities are not changed overnight and these types of investments are seldom just stricken.

We do have a winner. Lock and hold
