It markets through direct mail, cooperative mail programs, a Web site, and freestanding inserts. 1-800 CONTACTS' purchasing and shipping systems are integrated and provide eleservice agents with real-time information about product availability. After the planned IPO, president Jonathan Coon will control about 40% of the firm.

Scheduled for IPO the week of 2/9/98.
