(COMTEX) B: Telenetics and Cellemetry Forge Strategic Initiative
B: Telenetics and Cellemetry Forge Strategic Initiative

MONTEREY, CALIF. (May 5) BUSINESS WIRE -May 5, 1999--Telenetics Corp.
(OTC BB:TLNT) and Cellemetry LLC, a joint venture between BellSouth
(NYSE:BLS) and NumereX Corp. (NASDAQ:NMRX), Wednesday announced an
initiative to incorporate Cellemetry LLC's patented wireless data
technology, known as Cellemetry(R) Data Service, with Telenetics'
patent pending AirWave(TM) wireless communication module to provide a
dependable, low cost solution for automatic meter reading (AMR) and
remote monitoring.

The two companies plan to jointly market their solution to utilities,
meter manufacturers and other AMR providers.

Cellemetry(R) Data Service, originally developed and patented by
BellSouth and now owned by Cellemetry LLC, is a patented two-way
communication system that links remote equipment devices to central
monitoring centers using the forward and reverse overhead control
channels of cellular telephone networks.

AirWave(TM) is a cellular communications module and proprietary antenna
that fits inside a utility meter or other remote monitoring or data
acquisition device. When utilizing Cellemetry(R) Data Service, it
transmits bursts of data to a central host site to provide reliable and
very low cost, two-way communications to monitor or read remote devices
such as hard-to-reach utility meters and remote control and measurement
devices. The Telenetics/Cellemetry LLC solution will be designed to
read meters and will report meter tampering and power outage detection
and is scheduled for initial roll-out mid-year.

In announcing the strategic initiative, Michael Armani, president and
chief executive officer of Telenetics stated, "We believe the alliance
between Telenetics and Cellemetry and the resulting products and
services will generate significant interest in our joint solution. The
utility and industrial automation markets are among the fastest growing
segments of the wireless communications market. The combination of our
technologies and other products to be developed, will secure a
prominent position for Telenetics and Cellemetry in these dynamic
markets. Our initial effort in the automatic meter reading market (AMR)
will initially focus on hard-to-reach utility meters.

Cellemetry's Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tina Zinn said,
"Anticipation of deregulation has the power industry looking for ways
to enhance their services and establish new business opportunities. Our
reliable data transport technology and our ubiquitous North American
footprint, when combined with Telenetics' innovative products and
experience, will give our utility customers a way to achieve these
objectives today."

Cellemetry Data Service is a two-way wireless communication system that
links remote equipment devices to central monitoring centers anywhere
there is cellular coverage. It utilizes the non-voice or "control"
channel, so it has no impact on voice traffic. Using Cellemetry
technology, remote radios can be polled, time-set to or autonomously
exchange information with application's central locations through the
cellular network. Information gathered is relayed to and from the
customer's designated site for collection or for response. Based on
remote conditions, control actions can be relayed as well.

Telenetics is a leader in the design and manufacture of proprietary
data-communications solutions for utility and industrial automation
applications. Telenetics offers a broad range of industrial grade
dial-up and leased-line modems, cellular modems, fiber optic line
drivers and wireless automated meter reading products. By designing a
wide range of industrial modem devices, Telenetics became a pioneer in
providing communications solutions to major manufacturers of meters,
RTUs, controls and measurement devices. With the introduction of
Omega(TM) automatic meter reading cabinets and subsequent $6.8 million
contract with Duquesne Light Company of Pittsburgh (NASDAQ:DQE) in
1998, Telenetics introduced a unique cellular solution for commercial
and industrial meter reading automation.

Telenetics is based in Lake Forest, Calif. Cellemetry LLC, BellSouth
and NumereX have headquarters in Atlanta.
