Telscape International Inc.,has grown like crazy in 1997. Its company press release says "TELESCAPE" is a turn-key and value-added telecommunications company strategically positioned to tap the growing and emerging markets of Latin America, with a particular emphasis on Mexico." Here is my own view on this company: From reading the SEC filings, it appears that by strategic acquisitions, at bargain prices, and picking the right entities to venture with, this company has forged ahead of the pack in Mexico, and is poised to become a cash cow in the wake of the break-up of the former Mexican monopoly over telephone service---or to be acquired by a giant telcom. Either way, growth is in its future. The float is minuscule in light of the revenues and earnings that are all but guaranteed. In fact, most of the stock is held by the key managers (who seem to know a good thing). For that reason, even as the world's stocks tumbled during the October '97 crash, this company just about held its price throughout.
