Several factors underscore WaterPur's investment appeal. The World Health Organization estimates that over 2 billion people around the world lack daily access to safe water supply. A recent World Bank study estimates that between $600 and $800 billion will be required to satisfy the water infrastructure requirements of the developing countries. WaterPur's technology, products and business plan are focused on addressing this substantial market. WaterPur offers technology to bring cost-effective, safe drinking water to smaller communities where larger municipal water systems would be impractical. Incorporated into WaterPur's business plan are multiple strategies to capitalize on its market position plans, each affording its own opportunities. Community Systems: This product category, known as the WP series, addresses the rural and urban population of small- to medium-sized communities of up to 100,000 people. In addition, the WP series addresses the industrial segment for process and waste water treatment applications based on the use of additional process modules for the removal of specific contaminants in the water. Commercial Systems: This product category, known as the Diamond Rain systems, addresses the needs of two levels of the urban population: 1) specialized purification systems for organizations such as schools, hospitals, airports, hotels, and restaurants, as well as for animal husbandry and smaller sized industrial applications; and 2) bulk purified water sales distributed, through grocery stores, small outlets and franchise water stores. The Company currently has six dedicated water stores (Vietpure stores) in Vietnam. Consumer Products: The Diamond Rain consumer product line provides multi-purpose bottled water and point-of-use water purification systems and filters--including water coolers, sports bottles, countertop, undercounter and refrigerator units. Consumer products are currently distributed in North America, Korea, the Middle East and Vietnam. WaterPur's major source of revenue is expected to be the Community and Commercial Water Supply market. With the exception of infrastructure projects involving municipal systems for large cities, competition relating to small, low-cost, packaged water treatment equipment and services is generally weak and fragmented in the developing nations. WATERPUR INTERNATIONAL INC. ENTERS CHINA Sparks, Nevada--November 26, 1997 --WaterPur International Inc. (OTC:WPUR) announced that a Memorandum of Agreement has been signed with an agency of the Government of China for the establishment of a Joint Venture whose primary role will be to manufacture and supply low-cost water treatment systems to small and medium-sized communities across China. Under the terms of the Agreement, WaterPur will own a 50% equity interest in the Joint Venture. WaterPur will transfer its low-cost water treatment technology to the Joint Venture. The Chinese counterparts, who will own the balance 50% equity interest, will provide the use of existing manufacturing facilities to produce the water treatment systems, which will be distributed across China through their well-established national marketing network. It has been agreed that all parties will endeavour to fully establish the Joint Venture legally in China by early 1998; subject to the receipt of all the appropriate Chinese Government approvals. The Joint Venture terms will address all the necessary provisions for repatriation of profits. Commencement of initial manufacturing and pilot installations will be launched as soon as possible thereafter. Company Chairman, Amyn Dahya, said,"This is a very important development for WaterPur as the Company expands implementation of its global strategy. Over the past four years, we have worked diligently in Vietnam, which has been an important stepping stone for us into China. The low-cost community water systems for China have largely been developed through our experience in Vietnam. We have been advised that there are an estimated 800 million people in China that could utilize our systems, since a large segment of the country's population lives in small- to medium-sized communities that are in urgent need of safe water supply. Based upon an average capital cost for plant and equipment of US$15-20 per person, this represents a substantial market that can be harnessed by WaterPur. The technology transfer and local manufacture approach is the most appropriate method for us to address the needs of the Chinese market. Having local partners that have existing distribution capabilities is clearly the best way to rapidly enter the market with minimal risk. Our global business strategy also covers expanding our interests in the CIS, Indian and African markets, where we have been making excellent progress. Vietnam also continues to develop successfully. We look forward to reporting to our shareholders in the near future on further developments in these markets." WaterPur International Inc. is an environmental technology company specializing in the provision of low-cost water treatment systems for small and medium-sized communities in the developing nations. waterpur.com Mr Metals | ||||||||||||||
