Energy Resources is a company with three divisions.

The first is an actual oilfield in which they are producing oil and working on improved oil recovery systems.

The second is Cox, which makes instruments for measuring temperature. These are used in pharmacy and food industries. Sales indicate a continuing uptrend.

But the most exciting news is from their Vitsab division. On June 10, 1998, they received the rights from the FDA for Freshtags. These are small, cheap, color-changing tags that can be placed on foods and thru an enzyme reaction, detect certain chemicals that form when food begins to "spoil". This supplements the existing products that Vitsab and Cox have that can tell if products have been safely shipped and handled.

I'm high on ERES for these reasons:

1. INTERNET SHOPPING - The upscale food business over the internet is booming. The combination of products from ERES can tell the consumer that the product was safely shipped and handled, and arrives "fresh".

2. USDA FOOD INSPECTIONS - It is difficult to tell when fresh meats and seafood are turning bad from just a visual inspection. Often, the time that food spoils is determined by how it was stored and/or handled. Yet, the workload for inspectors keeps increasing and there seems to be fewer of them. Freshtags can be placed on the food to provide a visual record of the product's safety from the time of processing until it is prepared in the consumer's home.

3. DATE STAMPED PRODUCTS - Most products that are date stamped are thrown away by supermarkets when the product expires. However, methods such as OZONE washing and careful storage and handling can extend the shelf life of various products. ERES makes a product that can be detect when a product is spoiling, allowing the supermarket to replace DATE STAMPED PRODUCTS WITH FRESHTAGS. By using this on prepacked salads, yogurt, etc, you can safely sell these products to a consumer right up until the time they spoil. (which can be several days after the average expiration date). Selling the products instead of throwing them away could help the bottom line in the narrow profit margin grocery industry.

I cannot predict when the price of this stock may go up, but feel it has the potential to appreciate rapidly once it is discovered.
