While perusing the threads tonight, I was overcome with Divine Inspiration or Divine Intervention; doesn't really matter which. I was absentmindedly reading some post when it hit me. Vlasic Foods International, better known as Vlasic Pickles.
What a timely investment I thought, what with all of us stocking up on non-perishable food items in preparation for the inevitable Y2K famine.
So I looked, and guess what? They've recently dropped somewhat in price. Aha, I thought! A buying opportunity if I ever saw one. The current price is just under $8, a far cry from their recent level which was around $13.
I checked around and found some analysts' opinions. I found 1 STRONG BUY, 2 BUYs, 5 HOLDs and 1 STRONG SELL (aka abandon ship!!!). If we treat this like a gymnastics competition, we can toss out the high and the low mark (STRONG BUY is the American judge, and STRONG SELL is the Russian judge), we're then left with 2 BUYs and 5 HOLDS, a pretty strong inference that this stock should be a core holding in everyone's portfolio, wouldn't you agree?
I still wasn't quite sure though, so I decided to do the Peter Lynch Acid Test. I went to the refrigerator, opened the door, and sure enough, right there in back of the Miracle Whip (at least I think it was Miracle Whip; kind of greenish-yellow now) was a jar of pickles. I scraped off all of the old salt from the label, and sure enough, it was VLASIC!!! What better signal could you ask for...
Go Vlasic...
