Introduction Compact

Flexion is my favorite start-up company (no IPO yet). Founded by the former Chief Technology of 3COM's Remote Access Products Division, Flexion has developed an open PBX product that is light-years ahead of anything else on the price/performance spectrum.

1. The Flexion X300 accepts bundled voice/data on a single pipe from a telco. (The bundling of voice/data on a single pipe results in a significant monthly savings to the customer.)

2. Whether or not working with bundled voice/data, the X300 (which is the size of a small computer monitor) has a PBX shell that offers all the features of proprietary PBX (e.g., from Lucent, Alcatel, Siemens, Inter-Tel) costing more than 3 times as much. These include:

o Voice mail

o Direct inward dial numbers

o The ability to use any type of phone, including cordless

o Unified messaging, such that you can call in and the system "reads" your email to you.

o Playing voice mail on your computer, and then forwarding it.

o Unified faxing

o Auto-attendant

o Call forwarding (to internal and external numbers)

o Pop-up screens on the computer (attributable to a CTI interface) that show callers, and the status of all telephones in the office.

o Phone system continues to function even if/when the NT server crashes.

We've installed the Flexion system at our law firm (actually, 2 different law firms are running on the same system) and it is simply miraculous. It is also as stable as a rock. I can't wait until this company goes public. flexion.com
