Assuming we agree that terrorism has to be eliminated now or we face such additional destructive acts on the soil of the United States as are terrible to contemplate; and assuming all of us understand that the economy of a nation or group can be influenced by the overall conditions of the markets in the world, including the stock markets of the United States; and understanding that a collapse of the NYSE and the NASDAQ markets would be not only bad for us, but good for the bad guys - and that taking a short position in an equity after this date could easily contribute to a negative move in these markets; and knowing that if we as individual investors can, as a group, have a visible and real influence on the NYSE and the NASDAQ; I'd like to propose that as a demonstration of our solidarity with the government of the United States and its allies, none of us take a short interest in any stocks, starting now, and continuing until stability in the stock markets is achieved and a bottom on the INDU and the COMPX is achieved. Options OK, no initiation of short sales. I know this idea has the potential for wiping out the stock markets totally if taken to extremes. But I believe I can make a good case for it anyway. I'll outline my arguments for this in the first post I make on this thread. | ||||||||||||
