A recent article in a Canadian newspaper provides a wealth of information on Nextair which could potentially take the wireless industry by storm in the next few years. Take some time to read the following article and do your own due dillegence on this company. I have provided some net links below along with general information about Nextair to get you started. First, the article: Thursday 4 October 2001 Instant recognition Windsor-based software company uses awards to launch new product By Bob Meyer Star Business Reporter Steven Hulaj, left and Simon Fraser of Nextair Corporation display the firm's products and awards in their Windsor offices. Hulaj is the founder and Fraser is president and CEO. Nextair won several categories at the recent Field Force Automation Awards in Chicago. Star photo: Ted Rhodes Beating out companies like Microsoft and Oracle to win two best of show awards couldn't have come at a better time for the Nextair Corporation. The Windsor-based software company was all but ready to launch a new product called Airix and needed a springboard. Instant recognition came with the awards handed out at a recent Chicago communications exhibition. Now, if all goes as planned, Airix could become the international "language" of wireless users worldwide. "Our strongest achievement will be coming to market soon," says 37-year-old Steven Hulaj, who founded Nextair in 1995 and is now the director of marketing. "It is a patent-pending software application and wireless data transmission language which allows other software applications to run on wireless mobile devices regardless of the device type." Nextair (TSE: NXA), with offices at 4510 Rhodes Dr., has its headquarters in Toronto and customers in more than 35 countries. With 40 employees in Windsor, four in Toronto and a handful in London, England, Nextair develops software for all kinds of companies using wireless technology. It is estimated that before long there will be more than one billion wireless users globally. By 2003, wireless devices like personal digital assistants and phones will surpass the number of personal computers used today. More than 1.5 billion of these devices will be equipped with wireless capabilities by 2004. "Nextair is now positioned to play a significant role in this evolution," said Simon Fraser, the company's president and CEO. Wireless data communications is an emerging market characterized by constantly evolving technology and industry standards. But it is difficult to predict how the market will grow, if at all. "If the market fails to grow, or grows more slowly than anticipated, we are not totally dependent on the success of these two new software products. We are well-established globally and will survive comfortably at the rate we are going now," said Fraser, who came from the United Kingdom to Nextair by way of a securities firm that had invested in the company in 2000. Nextair was first traded on the TSE in March 2001 at $0.55 a share. Most recently, it was trading at $0.10 a share. Hulaj said Airix is a real-time translator that sits on top of every popular device operating system and supports virtually all of them, including J2ME, Windows Pocket PC, Palm OS, RIM, WAP and Win 32. "As this is our first North American show demonstrating our two newest products, we are very honoured for being recognized as having a significant new wireless enabling technology and look forward to working with systems integrators to provide this new product to the marketplace," Hulaj said after winning the awards. He's also negotiating the licensing of Airix so systems integrators and software providers can offer their customer base the ability to go wireless with core business applications. SAME WORDS "Imagine that someone taught you a new language called Airix and it became the only language you know. The magic about Airix is that everyone in the world, whether they speak Italian, French, German or Russian, can understand it because it comes through their wireless PC or telephone, in the language they understand." -- Steven Hulaj, founder of Nextair] WHAT THEY WON ¥ Best middleware solution award for creating wireless software products and corporate applications that function with wireless devices on any network. ¥ Best wireless Internet solution award for its capabilities as a wireless dispatch Internet service.
