Teachers on SI - Calling all Educators

It occurred to me that this might be a nice place to talk about education, and exchange lesson plans and ideas about teaching. I'm not sure how many teachers are on SI, but I've met a few over the years. There may not be enough of us to have a subject of our own, but I thought, "Why not give it a try?"
This might also be a nice place for parents to come to discuss educational issues as well.
I'd like the conversation to be very polite, absolutely no name calling, and no going on and on about entrenched school issues that are purely a matter of opinion, and where disagreements really can't be resolved. If you're a member of a church, pretend the minister and his wife are standing behind you (or the priest or the rabbi or...you get the idea). If you're not a member of a church, please imagine the strictest most morally upright teacher you ever had is standing right behind you, expecting you to be on your very best behavior. If you do not measure up to the exacting standards the aforementioned folks would expect of you, you will be excluded from this thread and you will be sent to the principal's office.
