Introduction Compact

In a first for SI, I am creating the first "tangential" subject. The first 21 posts here were deleted by SI admins last week from the The Residential Real Estate Post-Crash Index-MODERATED subject. Some members have objected to the deletions, and quite frankly I'm not sure if we did the right thing or not....so I am restoring them for anyone who wishes to read them or continue the discussion.

Was SI wrong to remove the posts? Where do you draw the line on a "personal attack", and is it fair game to say anything you want about a "public" figure using an anonymous alias? What constitutes a "public" figure? Is this a "flame war"? At what point should flame-wars be stopped?
