Roy,

I am happy for you that Brocade's IPO is doing so well. Do you still hold Brocade stocks or you also have to wait the 180 days before you can sell. Just curious.

Roy,

Would you help me out in clearing up some of my questions. Is it true that Brocade was working exclusively with Sun during the past year? How do you explain the Sun/Ancor deal? Why did Sun go with Ancor? Is a_rapport correct in stating that Brocade turned the Sun deal down? Why? Based on your vast FC industry knowledge, which Tier 1 OEM's are likely to generate the most FC switch volumes , comparing Sun, IBM, HP, EMC, Hitachi, Compaq, DELL, Gateway, DGN, Seimens?? Any other possible large OEMs that we are missing? Look forward to your vast knowledge as opposed to typical internet chatroom so call opinions. Thanks in advance.

KJ

Roy, I guess I struck a raw nerve with you...kind of surprised by your personal attack since I do not recall initiating any assault against former BRCD employees, especially you or your ex-colleague, the well-respected Brenda C. All I can tell you is that a current Ancor mgmt person told me that OEMs they were talking to had expressed surprise when the BRCD S-1 was initially filed since a) SQNT made up 84% of BRCD's sales and 2) the $24 million in 1998 revs were substantially "different" than the $75 million that BRCD salepeople has told them. As a matter of fact, I also heard that Dain Reuscher's analyst had previously estimated BRCD revenues at $60 million+..Where did Dain get these numbers from??

IF I am reporting false heresay, pls advise. Since I greatly respect your most knowledgeable and informed opinions about this industry, I would like to post one of your most informative and accurate posts for all here to give you the "props" that you deserve. Has your assessment/opinion of Sun changed since March 26/99?:

I will remind you that Sun is STILL the largest FC shipper in the world. they lack fabric
login (therefore switches). but I wouldn't bet against them in this business, smart guys
running it and an installed base that is easily converted. they ship terabytes a week.....

As to the returns issue at Brocade. Are you reading the same S-1 I am? They have an
allowance of $100,000 in 1998 sales of $24M. That's about 8-12 switches expected to
be returned. And only 280K in Q1FY99. Doesn't sound high to me. (I am looking at
SCHEDULE II -- VALUATION AND QUALIFYING ACCOUNTS)

Louie,
If Ancor can only get 30%-50% of the FC switch market, Brocade will have bigger or
the same potential as Ancor. The question is how big is the switch market. Last year
was bad for entire FC industry, Ancor went down to $1, Qlgc went down to $25,
Emulex went down to $6, and look where they are now. Things are getting better and
hope it will be great. Right now, EMC, HDS are the only hope I can see to push FC in
99, IBM is a lesser force because it has SSA to sell, and SUN has not made a move in
last two years and were trying to slow things down. Ancor to go with EMC is the right
move. In general, EMC, HDS, and IBM will be the major pushing force in 99. EMC
has seen its FC business grow from $100M in 97 to $800M in 98, all these FC
installation will be the market for switch upgrade in the future.

From Brocade's S-1, I can sense that Brocade has been had similar problems that
Ancor had, a lots of returned stuff to charge.

With all due respect, Roy, I do remember Brocade putting out press releases that contained patently false claims. Here's an example:

"the only FC switch that provides management and diagnostic services" - Message 2623712

I also remember Brenda plugging Brocade (exclusively) in interviews she gave in her capacity as FCA president - a clear conflict of interest.

Not to make too big a point of it, but Brocade hasn't exactly been using kid gloves in their public relations. Justly or not, to me this lends credence to Kerry's claims that behind the scenes Brocade may have been acting comparably.
