birddog, I can tell you of one family that was devastated by marijuana. Mine. My ex-husband is 49 years old, now living with relatives, smoking pot every day, and wondering why he can't get a decent job. He watches "Twilight Zone" marathons all day, and can't understand why his children do not want him to call them on their jobs, while they are working for a living, and listen to his complaining. I also have friends who are in similar situations. The 60's didn't do or my friends any favors.

BD, I didn't see the movie "Midnight Express" but as I recall from the commercials, it dealt with the drug laws of a foreign country. I made a mistake in assuming that we were only talking about the U.S.

Yes, alcohol is,at least, as bad as marijuana and should be dealt with in the same way. Being an ex-drunk, I know the ravages of alcohol on family, friends, and the drinker's own body. The problem is,and I don't agree with it,alcohol is not against the law unless a person over imbibes and drives a car. In some states, public intoxication is a misdemeanor. I didn't pass,or not pass, the laws governing these two substances and could understand anyone's campaign to pass new legislation on the over indulgence of alcohol.

If that's the only rude and uncalled for comment you receive on these threads, count yourself fortunate. At least, I did not use the offensive words that some do.

I probably should have said sneaky instead of smart. Mea culpa.

I said Bush would have been prosecuted and, knowing his mother and father, they would not have tried to influence the judge. What the judge and jury may have done thinking they were pleasing the parents is not something anyone can control.

Too many people think that GW was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. He may have been born with one, because of his grandfather but, having known the family since GB ran for the senate in either 64 or 66, I am sure he was not raised as some sort of aristocrat. Gore received more doting than George did...TD

Your response was very eloquent. I think lives can be ruined by marijuana, but I haven't seen it. I have seen incredible hurt and devastation caused by alcohol, however.
