Idler....Were you actually invited to the conference or did you just show up? I ask this because of the following post....

Message 11124187

I still do not understand how, in theory, any meeting such as this could be closed to the general public. If all information given out at the meeting is immaterial, then by definition it is useless or close to useless. If it is material, then it is illegal for it to be disseminated to a closed group without simultaneously making it public.

I completely agree with the sentiments that you expressed above and hope that the conference was actually open to the public. Thanks for your synopsis.

Fantastic summary, idler. They sure schooled you in taking comprehensive notes at Stanford <g>. From your description, it sounds like the meeting was a hit!

Many thanks,
FranQ

Can anyone shed any insight in the how CMDA ties into the internet -- are we talking data capabilities? [I thought GSM handled data]

thoughts here, and potential applications?

Idler, was there any mention of how well Omnitracs, wireless cinema, Eudora, and the Wireless Knowledge joint venture are doing? All this talk about asics and IPR but what impact do all of the above have on earnings?

Thankyou for sharing your notes with all of us.This certainly sheds light on the very fast and changing business we are all participating in.QUALCOMM has planned wisely as in the past always looking to increase the power base for CDMA's global expansion. The eventual exit from the handset business makes sense since it is in the CDMA chip/brain development that will continue to evolutionize the way we communicate.QUALCOMM no doubt is creating the unstopable CDMA operating system with the embedment of Win CE into the CDMA chip set.Speed will become so very important and this is where every one else will take a back seat.

"HDR will make the cell phone a network appliance"

I thought I read somewhere that HDR will not be mobile. Can anyone point to a definitive statement about this? Is there a primer on HDR?

John

Idler: Your "few little notes" are better than most 'professional' journalists and writers best efforts. My compliments to your 'party crashing' ability and writing skill. I think if you make it out to the left coast, I owe you a nice fat lunch. Your effort is greatly appreciated.

Will not comment on the content, other than to say "massive, massive business prospects" is a bull's eye!

Q rocks. It is only a matter of time...

idler- Do you remember if Thornley gave a time frame for ASIC's to make up the revenue lost by handsets? Can you imagine $4 billion sales with 55-60% gross margins?
