Does QCharts or Tradestation run on Linux? :-) As a related note, running these two programs on my PC has lead me to the conclusion that something like a 600 MHZ Pentium II with 256 M memory is the base system required for trading online. Anything less causes unnecessary problems during trading. Bob Graham

Well, I had to replace a machine. I suppose I could have downscaled a bit but I believed this was a fairly good value. The unfortunate issue is that dual proc's are not supported in Win 98. Then, too, I do run a lot of apps on this machine simultaneously. However, the most CPU use I've noticed is around 34%. Looking at the Task Manager, there is a performance chart on W2K that I never noticed on Win 98. It's a graph showing a Usage history on each CPU along with another chart on Memory Usage history. Then there are two snapshot thermometer-type graphs, one for each, so you can get a instant read on usage at any point in time. Of course, I do not watch these graphs closely so the CPU could have much greater usage at any given time. I have noticed leaps in speed on certain applications. Time for Tradestation's nightly maintenance functions has been cut by over half even though I now have exponentially more data under collection. I carry over 26,000 symbols now. Before I had perhaps around 500. I would have run Linux, but too much of my stuff is Win-based. I don't know if I could have run them on Linux but whatever; it's done now. The very last thing I wish to do is start all this nonsense all over once again.
